I. WE MUST REALIZE THE HORRORS OF HELL.

II. WE MUST REMEMBER THE SUFFERINGS OF THE SAVIOR.

III. WE MUST REST IN OUR SAVIOR’S LOVE.

1. What regularly makes you hesitate or flinch?
2. If Jesus was the Son of God, how could he suffer? How can we know his sufferings were real and not just a show for our benefit?
3. What elements of Christ’s suffering makes it unique in all history?

5. In the Apostle’s Creed we confess that he “was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell.” Though that’s true, what’s wrong with the word order?
6. What did Jesus “see in the cup” the night he was betrayed?
7. What does the phrase “greatly distressed” (vs. 33) mean literally? What’s surprising about this report?
8. Explain the meaning of Jesus becoming “the sin bearer” for us. Have you thanked him today for this remarkable saving work on your behalf?
9. What does “Abba” mean? Why did Jesus use this term in speaking to God? Why is it right that we also use this term or its equivalent?
