THE SUBMISSION OF THE SON

(Mark 15:1-5)

INTRODUCTION: Submission to others is hard from the start.

I. WE MUST SUBMIT TO THE FATHER’S WILL.

II. WE MUST SUBMIT TO LAWFUL AUTHORITY.

III. WE MUST SUBMIT EVEN UNDER FALSE ACCUSATION.

Questions for Family Review/Discussion:

1. As a child, were you compliant, defiant, or something in between? Can you give an example?
2. Why do you think submission to others is so difficult?
3. What are some circumstances that make submission to God difficult?
4. In times of illness or adversity, how do you decide when to fight and when to submit?
5. What does the phrase “delivered him over” (vs. 1) imply? Who ultimately “delivered him over” to Pilate for judgment and execution?
6. How can it be that God himself is behind the pains and suffering we must endure? Does this make God guilty of wrongdoing? Why or why not?
7. “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good….” (Genesis 50:20) Who first stated this truth? What circumstances did he have to endure?
8. If Jesus admitted to Pilate that he was the king of the Jews, why did Pilate hesitate to condemn him? Why do you think Jesus refused to answer any other questions from Pilate?
9. Why on earth should we respect and submit to human authorities who are corrupt and openly biased against the biblical faith?
10. What can you do when you have been falsely accused and you cannot prove your innocence? How can you live with lies and rumors against you with no way of clearing your name?
