(Mark 11:1-25)
INTRODUCTION: Have you ever suffered a sleepless night?
I. SEE THE SIGN OF HIS KINGSHIP. (11:1-11)
II. SEE THE SIGN OF ISRAEL’S JUDGMENT. (11:12-14; 20-21)
[III. SEE THE SIGN OF RESTORED WORSHIP. (11:15-19)]
Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- Have you ever seen an odd sign? What regular road signs seem odd to you?
- What were the two purposes of the signs that God gave to prophets and to Jesus?
- What events of the first Palm Sunday do we see Jesus deliberately planned? What aspects of that day could he not have engineered? Why?
- What are “psalms of ascent”?
- What parts of the first Palm Sunday show Jesus to be the king of Israel? What aspects of Jesus’ kingly authority do you find difficult to obey? Why do you think this is so? What will enable you to fully obey your King?
- Why did Jesus curse this fig tree? Of what truth was this an enacted parable?
- Why was Jesus justified in expecting figs from this tree out of “season”?
- What ominous truth did Jesus reveal in is statement that this “fig tree” would never again bear fruit? What did this say to the people of Israel?
- What did Jesus’ condemnation of Israel say to Jewish Christians who were tempted to revert to Judaism in order to escape persecution?
- Review Galatians 5:19-25. What would you say is the predominant fruit flowing from your life?
