INTRODUCTION: Things were really bad when Jesus came.
I. JESUS IS THE MAN OF PROPHECY.
II.JESUS IS THE MAN OF RESTORATION.
III. JESUS IS THE MAN OF THE HOUR.
IV. JESUS IS THE MAN OF HELP.
Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- What are some signs that things are getting BETTER?
- Be honest, have you ever thought that things are the worst they have ever been? What led you to that conclusion?
- Who were the three religious parties in Israel at the time of Christ’s coming? Describe their diverse perspectives. Why were each unhelpful?
- What was the purpose of a forerunner in the ancient world? What changes did John the forerunner of Jesus call for?
- Name some of the many prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament. Why were these prophecies given? Why do you think God did not just send Jesus without all these prophecies?
- Why is it necessary for God to command people to be saved?
- John appeared in the “wilderness.” What was significant about the wilderness in Israel’s history? What does this “wilderness” say to Christians today?
- What clues reveal that John was a return of the prophet Elijah? What did God’s sending “Elijah” say about Israel’s situation at that time?
- What two truths did John reveal about the One who would come after him?
- What was the meaning of John’s statement about untying his sandal strap?
- What are the four necessary components of every baptism? Describe the four components of John’s baptism? Of Jesus’ baptism? How are these baptisms different? What is altogether hopeful about the baptism Jesus provides?
