“TAKE HEART: I AM”

(Mark 6:45-52)

INTRODUCTION: Where do we see Jesus’ care for us?

I. JESUS’ DETERMINATION TO BRING PEACE.

II. JESUS’ DEMONSTRATION OF PROTECTION.

III. JESUS’ DISPLAY OF PROVISION.

Questions for Family Review/Discussion:

  1. How curious are you? Can you think of a time when your curiosity got you into trouble?
  2. Why is curiosity important when reading the Bible? What kinds of questions do you think we should we ask as we “interrogate the text of Scripture”?
  3. Why did Jesus hurriedly send his disciples away and dismiss the crowd? What does this tell us about his care and compassion for us?
  4. What are some areas of your life in which you need peace? What in Jesus’ teaching assures you of peace? What truth do you need to hold fast to?
  5. What is the significance of he detail that Jesus meant to pass by the disciples in the boat? What Old Testament events compare to this? What comfort should this have granted to the hassled disciples?
  6. What are some fears that you may face? Why do you think it is often difficult to face fears with the assurance that the I AM is with you?
  7. Mark tells us that the disciples did not understand concerning the loaves? What might we expected him to have said instead? What should they have understood about the loaves?
  8. Jesus is God, the same God we meet in the Old Testament? Why would the disciples naturally have had trouble grasping this? Why do you think believers today have trouble applying this great truth?
  9. Peace, protection, or provision: which is your most pressing need today? Why?
  10. If others could pray one thing for you, what would it be?
