Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- Name the Ten Commandments in order.
- What kinds of moral systems do people look to for guidance today?
- What is “utilitarianism”? What is its basic principle? What impossible problems does this moral system create?
- What warning do we find in Proverbs twice? (14:12, 16:25) What does this warning mean in your own words?
- Why did the great crowd listen to Jesus for three days without eating? Who ended Jesus’ time of teaching them? What does this suggest?
- Explain: “Happiness is not a thing. It is a result.” What produces true and lasting happiness? (See Matthew 13:44-46)
- The great crowd of people forgot all about eating, being fed. Who did NOT forget about this? What assurance do you receive from this truth?
- If we do not have food and drink, eventually we will die of starvation or thirst. So how can we say that Jesus is all that we truly “need”? What have we done when we elevate food or drink or companionship or sex to the level of a “need”?
- Jesus moved on to another place and took his disciples with him. Why did he do this? What does the fact that his disciples went with him imply? What does it also imply for us?
- Explain: “If you have nothing worth dying for, then you have nothing worth living for.” Why is Jesus worth dying for (and living for)? In what ways are you dying and living for Jesus?
