II.“THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF GOD’S LAW IS CONDEMNATION.”
III. “LOVE SPEAKS THE TRUTH”
This Week:
IV. “IDOLATRY WILL KEEP YOU FROM LIFE.”

Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- If married, tell about your first attraction to your spouse. (If not, tell about your first crush.)
- What are some effective advertisements that you can recall? What made their appeal so successful?
- If idols pose as “God-substitutes” or “God-replacements” what kinds of gains do they offer that God alone can supply?
- Why is it hard to believe that the rich, young ruler was sad BECAUSE he had great possessions? How can we convince others (or ourselves) that the same fate awaits all who trust in wealth?
- What truth is the statement, “idolatry is tenacious” actually revealing?
- The disciples were astonished: “Then who can be saved?” What kind of salvation were they hoping in? Why did they think the rich would certainly be saved? From what did Jesus come to rescue us?
- What thing that is “impossible” with man is possible with God? In what way have the prosperity teachers turned this truth completely upside down?
- What precisely must God cure in the sinner’s heart?
- What is Jesus promising in verse 30? How hard is it for you to see the church as a great blessing promised by God? What would you say to a professing Christian who claims, “I’m doing okay on my own. I don’t need the church.”?
- What, to you, are some of the best benefits of belonging to Christ’s church?
