INTRODUCTION: Mark presses us to choose in regards to Jesus.
I. HE IS A LUNATIC. (vv. 20-21)
II. HE IS A LIAR. (vv. 22-30)
III. HE IS LORD. (vv. 31-35)
Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- What decisions have you had to make recently? What were some of the harder decisions of your life? What made them difficult?
- What are the three possibilities of who Jesus is as Mark describes them?
- Why do you think Jesus’ own family thought that he was “out of his mind”? What contributing factors might have led to this conclusion on their part?
- What in your view explains the fairly common practice of people professing that Jesus is the Son of God, but then not following or obeying him closely? If Jesus really is the Son of God, what would be our reasonable response?
- If Jesus was actually in league with the devil, a charlatan and liar, why would that make him rank among the worst fiends in all of history?
- What were the scribes actually admitting when they claimed that Jesus cast out demons by the prince of demons? In what way does this actually demolish the first possible view toward Jesus, the one expressed by his family?
- What simple answer from Jesus exploded their claim that he was demon possessed? Why were the scribes forced to suggest something so absurd?
- What is the “unpardonable sin”? How is this sin different from serious sins like murder or adultery? What should someone think if they worry that they might have committed the unpardonable sin?
- What joyful promise did Jesus make to all who did God’s will in terms of believing on Jesus? Have you believed on Jesus?
- Describe as clearly as you can why you hope to enjoy eternal life.
