INTRODUCTION: How do people attempt to handle their guilt?
I. WE MUST TRUST JESUS, THE SON OF GOD.
II. WE MUST TRUST JESUS, THE SINLESS ONE.
III. WE MUST TRUST JESUS, THE SOVEREIGN ONE.
Questions for Family Review/Discussion:
- When someone sincerely apologizes to you for some wrongdoing how does it make you feel? Is this rare or common in your experience?
- How much do you think people today are plagued with personal guilt? Do you think this has this is increasing or decreasing? Why?
- What does the word “vicarious” mean? In what ways were Jesus’ life and his death both vicarious?
- Why was Jesus baptized with John’s baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins?
- How do the Father’s words in verse 11 apply to you? How aware are you of this truth on an everyday basis?
- In what ways was Jesus’ temptation like our own? How was it different?
- If the whole life as a Christian is lived in the “wilderness,” what is this wilderness like? How will the Promised Land be different? In what ways do some Christians attempt to deny wilderness living today? Do you think wilderness living calls for voluntary austerity and choosing hardships? Explain your answer.
- What “shadow” does Mark cast over his gospel in verse 14? Why is this an important reminder to us as God’s people?
- What is the difference between “time” (chronos) and “time” (kairos)? What would be altogether exciting and electrifying about Jesus message (15)? What do you think would help to make it more exciting and electrifying to us today?
