(Mark 10:46-55)

Questions for Family Review/Discussion:

  1. Of the five senses God gave us, which would you LEAST want to lose? Why?
  2. Do you have any experience with blind or nearly blind people? Describe their experience.
  3. When did God become more than a word for you?
  4. Name some ways the ministry and work of Jesus was similar to the exodus. Why is it important to see that following Christ links us to the Old Testament, the exodus, and the people of Israel in wilderness and Promised Land?
  5. How is it significant that the names “Joshua” and “Jesus” are virtually the same? Why is it important to note that Jesus approached Jerusalem through Jericho? How was Jesus’ treatment of Jericho different from Joshua’s?
  6. Why did the people of Jericho speak dismissively to blind Bartimaeus? Do you have any “undesirable” people in your life? What does his say to our treatment of these “unimportant” ones?
  7. Why do you think Jesus heard the cry of blind Bartimaeus? What was “bold” about his cry? What does this enacted parable tell us about the purpose of his public ministry?
  8. Why do you think Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted him to do for him? Wasn’t it obvious? What do you want Jesus to do for you?
  9. The old hymn states: “Once I was blind, but now I can see.” In what way should this line be modified? Why? How is this truth so exceedingly hopeful? How is it also motivating?
  10. Of all the individuals Jesus helped or personally dealt with up to this point, only Bartimaeus is named. Why do you think this is? Why does it matter?
